About us

In 1953 Abraham Kef opened his store on the Marnixstraat, in the center of Amsterdam. Abraham Kef was a pioneer, a flamboyant cheese monger and a storyteller with a great passion for raw milk cheeses made by small producers. He often organized cheese tastings, and shared his enthusiasm for distinct, unique flavors with the people of Amsterdam. Abraham Kef and his French cheeses managed to leave an indelible mark on the Amsterdam cheese landscape and far beyond.

Following in his footsteps, Marike van der Werff currently runs Abraham Kef. In 2014, she added a branch on the Czaar Peterstraat in the east of the city, and in the spring of 2017, she opened a third branch and a tasting room on the Van der Pekplein in the north of Amsterdam. Besides running three shops and a tasting room, we also supply cheese to many restaurants, bars, and bakeries around the city.

Nowadays at Fromagerie Kef we still have a great passion for raw milk French cheeses, but we currently also work with many Dutch artisanal cheesemakers. Ultimately, it is products with a special story and a unique, outstanding flavour that make us most happy.
